There are several signs that you need to look for when you think that you might have kidney stones.
When a person has pain in their side, belly, or back, there is a good chance they have kidney stones. This pain is going to be very intense and will probably sent you to the emergency room. The pain is caused from the fact that the stone is going to be moving through your narrow ureter and it will cause a blockage in the kidneys.
Pain while urinating
Once the kidney stone reaches the space between the bladder and the ureter, it is going to start to cause some pain when you urinate. This is going to be a sharp or burning pain that you are going to have. Sometimes this pain can be mistaken for a kidney stone when it might actually be a urinary tract infection. But there is also a chance that you could have a UTI with a kidney stone.
Urge to go
Another sign that you might have a kidney stone is when you have the urge to go to the bathroom more than you usually would. This is going to be especially true if the stone moved into the lower part of the urinary tract. Therefore, you might have to run to get to the bathroom in time or you might need to go throughout the day and night.
One of the most common symptoms that a person is going to have when they have a kidney stone is blood in their urine. Most of the time, the doctors are going to call this hematuria. The blood can be in the form of three different colors like brown, red, or pink. You might not always be able to see the blood but the doctor will be able to test for the blood in the urine.
When a person has a healthy urine, it is going to be clear and not have an odor to it. But when a person has a kidney stone, the urine is going to be cloudy and have a foul smell to it. But this could also be a sign that you have a kidney or urinary tract infection. It is cloudy because of pus inside of the urine and the smell is going to be because of the bacteria in the urine.
When a person has a large kidney stone stuck inside of their ureter, it is going to cause a blockage. This is going to slow down the urine from coming out. But if you completely stop going, then you are going to need to go to the emergency room immediately because it can cause some very serious problems. This is because the kidney stones could be blocking your ureter and causing the low amount of urine.
Nausea and Vomiting
The last common sign that a person has a kidney stone is that they are going to start feeling nausea and start to vomit. This is going to happen because the nerve connections between the GI tract and kidneys are shared. Therefore, the kidney stones can trigger all of these nerves in the stomach that is going to cause it to become upset. It is also going to be a way of your body dealing with the intense pain that the kidney stones are going to cause. This vomiting might also be followed by a fever and chills. This is because of the infection inside of the kidneys or in the urinary tract. A fever with pain is going to need medical attention immediately.
