Theme Compatibility

I have been wondering if there's a Samsung phone that supports theme downloading. I am a big fan of themes, now that there are Windows 7 themes for mobiles.

I am also a huge fan of samsung's product line and if anyone has any info on a Samsung phone that supports theme downloading please inform me.

Thanks

Samsung should allow porting user data to another phone

The only thing I think Samsung should do, or implement is the ability to port user data to the next handset. How nice would it be if you upgrade to a new handset and one can install the old phone's user data to the new phone?

Not all data is backed up by the software that comes with the phone and it is for the most part restricted. They have done this on the Monte where you could backup your sms. Why not take it beyond this?

Even if all is backed up by the software, one can not restore user data using the same software so it is not useful.

Samsung I8000 screen keyboard

Some of you have asked me for a screen shot of the Samsung I8000 (Omnia II) keyboard, to see what it look like, and my experience.

The actual size of each screen button is about four times bigger then the BlackBerry phone's keyboard. The input box is much bigger than the i900; please look at the pic. It is quick and responsive - much, much better than the i900. With the Big 3.7" screen this is a dream visually.

Samsung S5620 Monte (keyboard)

Samsung Monte S5620

I've gone through this phone's features and it's awesome. It has features like backup of sms text onto the phone as well card - nice one. It also comes with Garmin Maps which are always great to have. Unlike the F480, I can install games right from the card onto the phone. Samsung, you have scored big points in my book by making it easy instead of restricting the user.

Why I enjoy Windows Phones

Windows Mobile 6.5 Home Screen

There are a few things to consider here. For example look at the Garmin maps on the I900 and now the I8000. The display looks like the standalone units from Garmin. Compare this to the Samsung Jet, for example. It has a crappy Garmin version, simply because I think it has a different OS that runs on the Jet.

Do not get me wrong, I am not a great fan of Windows, however as the example mentioned about the Garmin display and so many other applications, it's better on Windows Phones in comparison to other OS's in the Samsung handsets range.

I really do not mind what OS Samsung uses as long as there is compatibility on various platforms and lots of applications and customization with virtually no restrictions for the user.

Mobile phone 'Superbugs'.

This is scary, this was in Turkey, but I'm pretty sure the same aplies here;
ScienceDaily (Mar. 13, 2009) — Mobile phone handsets belonging to hospital workers are covered in bacteria including the 'superbug', MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).New research describes how mobile phones used by healthcare workers may be a source of hospital-acquired infections.
Researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at the Ondokuz Mayis University, Turkey, tested the phones of doctors and nurses in hospital operating rooms and intensive care units. They found that almost 95% were contaminated with bacteria of different types, potentially causing infections ranging from relatively minor skin complaints to life-threatening illness. Only 10% of staff regularly cleaned their phone.

Mobile Phones NOT linked to Brain Tumors

Mobile phones are not associated with an increased risk of the most common type of brain tumour, finds the first UK study of the relationship between mobile phone use and risk of glioma. The results are published online by the British Medical Journal. The four year study by the Universities of Leeds, Nottingham and Manchester and the Institute of Cancer Research, London found those who had regularly used a mobile phone were not at a greater overall risk of developing this type of tumour.

A significantly increased risk was found for tumours which developed on the same side of the head as the phone was reported to have been held but this was mirrored by a decrease in the risk on the opposite side of the head making it difficult to interpret as a real effect.

Samsung global market share growth in 2009

According to Gartner, Inc., Global mobile phones sales totalled 1.211 billion units in 2009, 0.9% decrease from 2009. The fourth of quarter of 2009 however had a 8.3 increase over 2008.

Three of the top five mobile phone vendors experienced a decline in sales in 2009 while Samsung and LG had a positive result. Samsung led the pack with a 3.2% market share growth from 2008.

This achievement came as a result of improved channel relationships with distributors to extend its reach and better address the needs of individual markets as well as a rich mid-tier portfolio. For 2010, the company is putting a focus on Bada, its new operating system (OS) that aims at adding the value of an ecosystem to its successful hardware lineup.

Microsoft Phone... it's coming

Seems I wasn't far wrong when I thought the only way Microsoft's new OS makes sense was if they would be launching their own mobile phone. This is a post from their own blog:

"Windows Mobile is reborn. We all met the new Windows Phone 7 and by the end of the year we'll meet the first smartphones based on it. Reportedly, Microsoft will launch their own phone in early 2011 as well. And it will be made by Asus."
"According to the Northeast Securities analyst Ashok Kumar, there is more to see from the company. A Microsoft branded mobile phone. Currently, it's in the works and is expected to be ready for its premiere sometime at the beginning of the next year."
