According to Gartner, Inc., Global mobile phones sales totalled 1.211 billion units in 2009, 0.9% decrease from 2009. The fourth of quarter of 2009 however had a 8.3 increase over 2008.
Three of the top five mobile phone vendors experienced a decline in sales in 2009 while Samsung and LG had a positive result. Samsung led the pack with a 3.2% market share growth from 2008.
This achievement came as a result of improved channel relationships with distributors to extend its reach and better address the needs of individual markets as well as a rich mid-tier portfolio. For 2010, the company is putting a focus on Bada, its new operating system (OS) that aims at adding the value of an ecosystem to its successful hardware lineup.
Samsung brand ambassador and talented football player, Teko "The General" Modise, was interviewed by The League Football Magazine. See the full interview below.
What were your childhood aspirations?
I have always wanted to be a professional football player.
From City Pillars to Pirates to Bafana Bafana and a national hero status – how do you handle the pressure and how comfortable are you with this label?
Since I started playing football I never really cared about what people were saying. I just wanted to do what I love and that’s all that matters. I’m not really comfortable with the status because I am still new and I don’t believe that I have done much compared to players who were there before; like Benni, Pienaar and Aaron Mokoena just to mention a few.
