Review: Yasheel looks at the Samsung Star S5233
I'm very interested in seeing how bada measures up to other systems. I was just excited about the Android app maker, bada has some serious catching up to do. Any of you guys used their SDK yet? how is it
It's a good thing i read these comments, i was in the dark for sometime about a memory card bug in the phone. The phone writes data to the card fast and sometimes the card becomes corrupt and misplaces data which is impossibe to track from the phone unless you connect to a linux machine(tried in windows xp and didn't work). The thing that worries me is that there's no way of updating the phone's firmware to fix this. Note to samsung: Provide patches for all phone models as Sony Ericsson has. People base their next phone on their experience with the current, it be a shame to leave a manufacture from just a single bad experience with one mobile. just my 2cents
Yeah it doesn't. Hopefully the next iteration of this app will have advanced functionality.
Can someone please tell me where to find the wireless Mac Address for Samsung Wave? Thanks.
I just bought Samsung Wave. everything is ok so far except the E-mail function. I have added my gmail account but for some reason it downloaded 30 days older few emails and stoped.
anyone can help? thanks!
No I haven't used KIES in a long while (I wish there was a Mac version). What does the new firmware offer?
This Twitter Bada app has not the "RT with comment" function -,-
By the way palesa, have you upgraded your firmware on your wave?
Like i said in another reply....The Wave's screen at 3.3 inches is quite a way off from 4 inches on the Galaxy S as far as phone screens go, so it might be a bit difficult to navigate with one hand :)
Can't wait to try one out though! Should be in about 2 to 3 weeks.
Cheers
Thank you, appreciate it.
You are right, everyone who has seen the phone comments on the screen quality, and i only have it set to 4 contrast (or brightness).
That is why i am grabbing as much as i can as soon as i can!
Dont know the headphones, but Skull Candy gear is normally great quality, so cudos! Have not played around with the 5.1 settings, but will surely give it a go. Have not used Musc Recognition...read about it...but have not used it. Yes, it is sad that the app store is not yet live locally!
The wifi tethering is indeed excellent...the folks at Samsung really did a good job on the usability of Bada.
I have managed to get the GPS working properly. After a few times of trying to sync the licenses, i resorted to the route66 website. There is an app that you download for your pc called Route66 Sync. You have to put your phone in USB storage mode when you connect it and then run the app....It quickly picked up my phone and recognised the licensing. From there I could download the SA map and some nice voices and backgrounds for the on phone GPS. It's really super. Up to now I always thought that Garmap is the shi...., but Route66 have really come a long way! Tried it out to a few destinations already and it's really good.
Anyway, I am glad you also decided on this phone....to me it was a no brainer! I can not imagine a phone with a 4" display....it will just be too big for one handed operation, which is just about possible with the Wave. Although, I will soon be able to play with the Galaxy S....I don't think however that it will outdo this little beauty!!!
Happy "Celling" mate!
Hehe....sorry about that...It is indeed a 3.3" Screen....Somehow 3.7 got stuck in my head...Maybe it's all the reading up i did before i decided on this phone.
Well Spotted.
Are there any particular reviewers, blogs or whomever whose opinion you value more than others'? I must say that in addition to reading reviews on several blogs and getting a general feel for a product on forums, video reviews seal the deal for me.
I do not do anything without doing net research on possible phone which I would look at as my next........
You're right, I missed that error. The Wave has a 3.3" Super AMOLED display. The Samsung Galaxy S has a 4"-sized screen so in that respect it trumps them both.
I am sorry to inform you that S8500 Wave, do not have a screen size of 3.7" as you so quoted in your blog, the correct size is 480 x 800 pixels, 3.3 inches.
If you want a 3.7" screen size then you need to look at the I8000 Samsung, an awesome Business phone (tool). Comes with Gamin map which look like the Garmin stand alone units.
How does the Samsung Jet compare with the Samsung Wave
TrueBlue I really enjoyed reading your review. It seems you love your Wave as much as I absolutely adore mine. Do you find that at first glance people are immediately in awe of the screen quality? That alone has made my friends envious.
I have to agree with you on the Samsung Apps store; it's extremely easy to navigate and download apps. The only issue I've had is not being able to get more than 10 screens of apps. Yes I'm probably overdoing it! It would be nice to have folders, don't you think?
I've noticed that some apps are initially free when launched but seem to carry a charge later. A good example is PowerCalc which now costs R11.00 It's still worth the money but here seems to be a benefit to grabbing apps as soon as they're available.
The Music Player on the Wave is indeed fantastic. I use Skull Candy Agent Black headphones and the sound is superb. I mess around with the 5.1 sound option on the Wave when playing some videos (including YouTube) as well. Have you used Musc Recognition? I especially like that it's possible to add "found items" to a shopping wishlist. Too bad I can't buy anything yet as the service seems to not be active currently.
I have yet to explore many of the phone's features but right now I'm blown away by how easy it is to setup Wi-Fi tethering, the snappy Internet Browser and streaming videos from other devices via AllShare. In fact I've managed to play videos from my MacBook as well on the phone - very cool.
With regards to Route66, have you tried to sync licenses? If that doesn't work, please let me know so we can sort it out.
I went onto the samsung bada app store and downloaded as much as i could...i must say, it is a pleasure....with the help of the Samsung Kies app that comes with the phone as the desktop software, it was sooooo easy to navigate and download apps...it also installs it directly to your phone and onto your chosen memory; phone or card.
I have been happily playing with the apps and find it very satisfying....alot of them are demo's and you can download the full apps at a cost (small). That is when the SA app store goes live!
On a side note, the music and sound of the phone is superb, especially through my Sennheiser HD 435's. The battery life has been taking a bit of strain, but to be expected when you play with all the downloaded apps.
Loving It! Now, if only i can get this Route66 GPS software going!
Hi I am looking for sgh i-600 I have checked almost everywhere where can I but this phone. Please help

That's an option to upload a new profile picture for the logged-in user's account, not quite what I meant about lack of photo uploads. I was referring to a Twitpic/Yfrog type of service which typically submit photos as tweets.
Thanks for the hint though. I hadn't known about the profile photo thing.
R76.00 could be seen as a bit steep for an app but I think Gravity is worth it. Perhaps for a casual Twitter user it may be overkill but I run multiple accounts and need to tweet on-the-go. I highly recommend it for Symbian-based phones.
Very funny but Samsung should look at its own problems first. The Galaxy S has serious problems with GPS reception and accuracy. Several firmware versions after the release and it is still quite useless. lol

That's a very great news but not very good for the users in India like me . I am a user of Spica galaxy and a android developer . I looked into the service centers but none of them was in India. Is there no plans to support this upgrade in India ? If not physically can you make a official notes that talks about how this upgrade actually happens so that we can try out here and recommend others .
Having a lots of expectations and positive response from your side.
Prashantak
now that's a phone i would love to own...
only if i knew the price...
