I've been asked about additional accessories for the Samsung I8000 that I use and where I got them from. I have and use a leather belt clip pouch and a Samsung I8000 Omnia II Leather Wallet Case Pouch LB3 which I paid $ 0.99 on Ebay for (appox R 10.00).
The people that had and used the Omnia I900, would know that there was a nice app that was called "Smart Reader". For the ones that do not know what this app is all about and or what this app does, in a nut shell, it is a business card scanner. Instead of you punching in info into your phone as most would do, the phone scan the info into your phone whereby one just needs to click Save and voila - info is in your phone book.
If a business card is scanned, all the info on the card will be included into the phone book. If there is part which you do not what to include you can simply delete the part before saving. The app put all the respected info into the relevant part, for example, Name with name, and e-mail with e-mail address, etc.
I have sorted the Mystery about the paste issue in the SMS text box.
At first Glances is seems the only option is insert, then I discovered that moving right into middle upper right Position tap and hold then the paste menu pops up.
The best position seems to be top middle of the text box
If you people require a screen shot, post on the blog and I post one.
I have noticed here on the Blog that there are more and more people that have an I8000.
I myself have picked this phone over even the I9000 Galaxy S. Why? Because it is a business phone. This does not mean because it falls in this category that it is difficult to use. It is as easy as the most basic phone on the market just with very powerful features.
For some of you that need to know a bit more on customizing the I8000 or understand the phone a bit more, please post your query here and I'll be glad to assist.
Some would say 'yeah but it has a manual'. There is loads of stuff that the manual does not cover. Others would have difficulty in getting their head around the manual.
I have my I8000 so sorted that it can almost make Coffee... LOL!
I had a look at the new Samsung I9000 Galaxy S. Everybody all over net seems to compare the Samsung Galaxy S with the iPhone 4.
The Galaxy S seems to over shadow iPhone 4 by 90% in features as well as talked about how well Samsung has customized the TouchWiz over the Android OS.
Well I have seen what they did with I8000 whereTouchWiz works over Windows Phone without one noticing the OS under the bonnet, so to speak.
The only part where Galaxy S loses to the iPhone 4 which is mainly the body construction, it's too plasticky.
Price is important factor too and currently the iPhone 4 is probably the most expensive smartphone on the market.
I am not sure why only a few screens rotate on the I8000, why Samsung has done this however, I have customized my I8000 so the screens like Garmin Maps would rotate horizontally which looks better. The cradle also rotates horizontally so it make sense to have work and display in this way on the screen.
If any of you want to do the same, leave a comment here on the blog and I'll assist you with getting that sorted. I have added about ten screens that rotate. Among them are Files Explorer, which is handy when the screen can rotate, because names which are very long show up horizontally enabling you to view the whole name which is not visible vertically.
If you have any other queries and others, leave a comment and I'll assist you all.
I have found a lack of information from the customer service regarding items included into a Samsung hand set box. This is the second time I phoned to ask what is included and each time client care could not answer me.
I understand there is so much info and hand sets, my suggestion will be, let whatever department list the items on the blog for all of us, so information would be easy accessible to us clients. Hence cutting out the frustration.
For the ones (clients) like me here is the details on the I8000 items accessories included into the box:
Manual, charger, USB cable, headphones, car charger, cradle, Garmin maps, soft plastic case.
The new i8000 is so much better then the demo one which I was using and was testing. It has the latest Firmware update (software).
I have loads of i8000 applications, which I use on my i8000.
I am curious to know whom uses a i8000 and or have apps for there phone?
This could be a nice platform to exchange ideas and get to know more apps which all of us could use?
The only thing I think Samsung should do, or implement is the ability to port user data to the next handset. How nice would it be if you upgrade to a new handset and one can install the old phone's user data to the new phone?
Not all data is backed up by the software that comes with the phone and it is for the most part restricted. They have done this on the Monte where you could backup your sms. Why not take it beyond this?
Even if all is backed up by the software, one can not restore user data using the same software so it is not useful.
My wife has upgraded to a Samsung S5620 Monte. One very awesome feature that it has, which I also have on my i8000, is the ability to save and export SMS to, say, your memory card for storage.
I find this to be a very useful as we all want or need to do this at some point.
It will be nice if they could take this beyond just sms's.
