I8910HD firmware update availability?

I have recently received my upgrade to the I8910HD! So far I like it.

Please can you let me know when the new firmware will be available for South African consumer phones? It is available in some other countries so far.

Thanks!

My Firmware version is

My firmware version is I8910JVIG1 with date of 08/07/2009. On the http://samsungi8910omnia.com/i8910-omnia-hd-firmware-downloads website they list brand new firmware which addresses many little issues which my phone currrently has. I don't see a firmware for SA so wandering when it'll be available for us?

PC suite software?

Thanks for the update! Can't wait to install it. Please just let me know if the Samsung PC suite will be able to update the phone as the message comes up as "your device is not supported by the software" or something to that affect?
Also will the Samsung update software work on Windows 7 or only on XP as I have seen many users having problems with the update procedure?

Thanks

PC Studio I8910 HD update

I don't yet have information on which Win version will be supported but will be sure to find out. The update should work via Samsung PC Studio. Should you experience any difficulties with the update once it's available, the Samsung Support team will be happy to help you out. The latest version of PC Studio (03 Feb 2010) can be found here.

I'll also be applying the update on my own phone and am looking forward to the new features!

Thanks for getting back to me. Seems we're in the same boat so looking forward to the update. Just FYI I have Win 7 and have Windows XP mode loaded so can try update using XP if Win 7 doesn't work.

Cheers

When I tried to update my

When I tried to update my phone on Monday using Samsung PC Studio 7 the following message came up “your device is not supported by the software". I tried again today and now I get a message saying “No update required” the phone software is up to date. I think this means that the update will be available soon, will wait and see.

Tonace can you try to update your software again and see if you get the same message?

Same result as you

When I tried to update mine a little earlier on Win 7 its says my phone is not connected. So I loaded up my Windows XP Mode machine and tried again. This time I get the same message as you. " Your phone software is completely up to date". At least it's something different. Looking forward to the update!!

Hiya,

Please try the update today. It should be available :)

Update - it seems the update wasn't available via PC Studio after all :( Apologies to all for the inconvenience. Please call Samsung Support at 086 726 786 for details on your closest Samsung-approved centre that can carry out the firmware update.

When is the update going to work?

As I have stated the update process doesn't work. I have tried several times and the update software just shows the message "No update required" "Your Software is completely up-to-date".... Please fix this!

The firmware update is available but only at the repair centers and the network providers. Samsung said it won’t be available through “Samsung Pc Studio 7”. You can contact the Customer Care Line on 0860726786 for further enquiries.

Mine has been done

Hi

After many, many requests and false hope from Samsung I finally got my firmware updated to the latest one. I was told to go to the authorized repair centre Robtronics as they have it and will do it for me. So I called Robtronics in Cape Town, montague Gardens and they said they had never heard of it. After many follow-up calls and pestering them they called Samsung and they said its not ready? So I pestered some more and they then contacted an MTN repair centre who did have it. So after all of that I have finally got it installed.
The contact details are:
Smart Tek (Robtronics)
Unit 2 Prestige business park
Democracy way
Montague Gardens
Cape Town

Upgrade

Hi

How long did it take to do the firmware upgrade at the authorized repair centre ( Hours / days / weeks ) and what do you think of the new firmware?

I took it in in the morning and they called me back a few hours later. The packet was marked as urgent though. As per receipt they state 72 hours turn around time usually. When I checked if the firmware was correct when I collected it, it had the same old firmware re-loaded. I got them to install the new firmware which they did while I waited. Took 15 minutes.

The phone is faster, but only a bit. It has the 3D task manager, photo gallery does not freeze when I browse through pictures but I don't have as much pics as yet so will see about that one. Camera seems faster when taking pictures but still cannot change flash and anti-shake settings as I like. I want more flexibility to change the settings as I see fit.

Will comment later if I pick up anything else.

I8910HD firmware changes

Hey Tonace,

Can you put it all in a blog post when you do find other changes? Sort of like an unofficial changelog for the benefit of other users. You'll get 50 Samsung points should you decide to do it :)
