MXit v5.9 now ready for download

MXit v5.9 is out! This version replaces MXit Elite which I assume was v5.8. Why the change back to version numbers? MXit have said:

You’ll notice we no longer have MXit Elite and, soon, we won’t have MXit Pro. It caused some confusion over which was the ‘better’ version. Truth be told, all versions are great – we just work around what your phone can handle. So we’ve moved back to numbering our versions, starting with MXit 5.9 for phones that can do almost anything. MXit Pro will soon be replaced by MXit 5.9 Lite for those phones that can’t do so much.

Now that you know the 'why', let's get to the 'what' - new features!

Profile pictures/avatars: I think this move was inevitable as MXit is a social network afterall. Thumbs up to this upgrade.
Status messages: These work just like on Facebook. Again, a nice touch.
Improved start up time and improved registration: I'm already registered and encountered an error while installing so can't comment on these. I do, however, like the help files. This works well on a multi-tasking phone to view the Help web page and switching back to whichever settings menus to which they refer.
Animated emoticons
Pop-up menus with sub-menus: this means that there are less clicks for the user. Menus are neatly collected and easy to navigate. This is probably the best new feature.

I must add that I like the new default colour scheme. The deep reds and black make a nice change from the previous green theme.

MXit have warned that this new version will generate more data traffic. This is expected as they now support avatars and other cool stuff.

This is a bug we have come across in version 5.9.0.

What happens is that when the avatars are busy downloading upon logging in and the GPRS connection in your area is weak it causes the MXit to freeze.

We have done some changes on our side regarding avatars in version 5.9.1.

Delete 5.9.0 off your phone and then download 5.9.1. If still experience this problem then disable avatars on your MXit. To do this, log into MXit then go to MENU - SETTINGS - APPEARNACE and disable the PROFILE PICTURE option.

Problem entering the pin

my wife & myself has the omnia i900, ther is a problem that we found by adding the pin! we can add the phone number & the security code but it doesn't want to add the pin! you can see everyting else but not your pin! it doesn't even give the stars as u entering your pin! why is it doing that? we downloaded 5.9.2 can u please help with that?

I have the same problom on my Corby S3653 phone. Can not seem to type in pin code everything els works but getting pin login seem to be the problem. Is the problem with my mobile or with mxit settings?

Well upon a clean installation of MXit and loading version 5.9.1, avatars are disabled by default which you need to activate before you can view them plus we have changed the avatars slightly so they do not use a lot of data which saves on airtime downloading them.

Depending on which phone you have. If your phone take only version 5.9 Lite then the chances are that the phone will not let you upload a profile picture.

With version 5.9.1 and higher, upon a clean installation profile pictures are disabled which needs to be enabled by the MXit user. We did this to save on airtime.

Version 5.9.2 was just a bug fix release for certain phones.

Pixon (M8800) & 5.9

I have a Pixon (M8800) and I downloaded Mxit 5.9, but my problem is that when I start Mxit it does an an auto logon and has the wrong pin, then tells me to re-enter my pin. But it just flashes the enter pin screen then continues with the auto logon again until it tell me to try again in 30sec.

To solve this, please delete MXit off your phone and download it again from www.mxit.com/wap

Once installed on your phone, use the LOGIN option, enter the correct details and all should be fine.

I have a Samsung i780, WM6.1. I have also tried various java versions of mxit, but there is NO way to enter the mxit pin! I can enter my phone number and the security code on the logon screen, but no response when i click on the pin line, no stars or dots even, really frustrating. Its been like this for months, is mxit ever going to fix this stupid bug? ..dont tell me to re-install and try again, I've tried many times already. This is obviously a problem.

Yes this is a problem we are having at the moment but we will be releasing the new Windows mobile version this week which you can try. This bug has been fixed in this version.

M8800(pixon) authentication failure

My pixon keeps kicking me out of mxit every day or so, telling me that I have entered an incorrect pin and only works again once I have re-downloaded mxit, however this is very frustrating, and to top it off the onscreen button have disappeared, which makes life just as difficult. I am ready to throw my phone against the wall. What can I do? And please don't tell me to re-download mxit, because I have even tried multiple versions and nothing helps with either of these problems.

You are able to use your MXit

You are able to use your MXit profile on your PC as well as your phone.

You cna download Pidgin from www.mxitlifestyle.com/mxitpc

Once you have this installed you can log in to your profile by using the same details you used on your phone.

We support the SGH STar which you can download MXit from www.mxit.com/wap log into your profile using the correct login details and you shoudl be able to access your contacts.

To delete MXit, normally where MXit is installed click on OPTIONS - REMOVE/DELETE

MXit on the F480

With MXit v5.93, there are no buttons on the screen, and since the F480 is a touch screen scrolling through ones contacts becomes a problem to a person that's not familiar with it. After some playing around I figured out how it works. But what I recommend is that contact scrolling option should be the same as the way you normally scroll though a message for example.

MXit supports kinetic scrolling so you should not have an issue scrolling through your contact list.

I'm not too sure what you are meaning about the no buttons piece you mentioned? If you coudl elaborate more I'm sure I can assist you a little better.

Hope you all are well...

Im getting fed up with my omnia- I dont know if its the omnia or if its mxit but its seriously bigging me now..

Mxit somehow got deleted off my phone a while ago and Ive been trying to get it back ever since, however everytime i download the application, you get the option to register or login in (i just go to log in because im using the same number and everything)

It allows me to type in my number but when it comes to the pin its just blank - and ive tried deleting mxit and downloading it using www.mxit.com/wap BUT still nothing..

Please could you help
