blue earth
About a year ago Samsung released an 'Eco-friendly' phone with a solar-panel on the back called the 'Blue Earth'. This seemed like a great idea to me at the time, and I was expecting to see all mobile phones eventually coming out with solar-panels on the back cover, but for some reason this hasn't happened.
Now I'm pretty sure that like me, everyone hates having to charge their cell's battery, and simply leaving your mobile out in the sun for a few hours to charge it would be really convenient, especially seeing we live in a country with oodles of sunshine? So what is wrong with the technology? Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to why it hasn't been more widely adopted.
You may remember that one of the big announcements by Samsung at MWC '09 was that of the Samsung Blue Earth S7550, a solar-powered phone that's made up of recycled plastics used in water bottles. In this video, the phone is showcased in a straight-to-the-point manner but impresses nonetheless.
Samsung has never failed to amaze me when it comes to technological advancement in appliances, television & mobile phones. They have always been one step ahead, and they've done it with style. This time, it's the Blue Earth.
Samsung recently unveiled this beautiful Blue Earth cell phone. This is the first full-touchscreen cell phone to run on solar power. No major details are out right now, but the company has said that the phone's simple design was meant to reflect that of a "flat and well rounded shiny pebble", and that the solar panel on the back of the mobile generates enough energy to allow the Blue Earth user to make a call anytime, from anywhere.
In another green initiative, Samsung has introduced "Blue Earth". This full touchscreen phone charges up using the solar panel on the back of the phone. Apparently the charging generates enough power to make a call anytime.
The phone is also made out of recycled plastic, PCM, that is extracted from water bottles.
